The coat of arms of Paraguay consists of the Sello Nacional in the obverse and the Sello de Hacienda in the reverse . The two sides of the coat of arms can be found on the two sides of the flag of Paraguay .

history

The first coat of arms of the South American landlocked state was introduced in 1812, but without defining its shape. In 1820, under the rule of José Gaspar Rodríguez de Francias , a first version of the coat of arms appeared in official documents, in 1842 the state symbols of Paraguay were described for the first time in the Ley del Pabellón Nacional by the Congreso General Extraordinario .

In 1967 the description of the state symbols became part of the Paraguayan constitution , the same happened in the new constitution installed in 1992. The text in the constitution stipulates that the properties and uses, if they are not prescribed by the Ley del Pabellón Nacional of 1842, can be determined by new laws. As a result, numerous variants of the coat of arms, especially the Sello de Hacienda , have been in use since the introduction of the coat of arms . The coat of arms was last changed in June 2013 by discarding changes from the Stroessner era.

description

The Sello Nacional in its usual form today shows a ring in a round white shield with an inscription in black capital letters : "República del Paraguay". A five-pointed yellow star is surrounded on the right by a green palm branch and on the left by a green olive branch .

The currently used variant of the Sello de Hacienda shows a lion holding a lance with a Phrygian cap under the inscription "Paz y Justicia" ("Peace and Justice").
