Warren Barker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Warren Barker (* 16th April 1923 in Oakland , California ; † 3. August 2006 in Greenville , South Carolina ) was a US -American composer .

Life

Barker received his first instruction in music from his father, a church organist and composer of sacred works. Warren Barker completed his studies at the University of California in Los Angeles and complemented it with private composition studies with Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Henri Pensis .

After that, Barker was first band leader and arranger in the United States Air Force . After his military service, he worked in the 1940s for radio as arranger for composer and conductor Carmen Dragon . His fame grew considerably and over the next 25 years he became an important composer for Hollywood and for television. He wrote the music for 32 television series and many cinema films. He had also signed a contract as arranger and conductor with the Warner Brothers Record Company , which enabled him to record a number of his own compositions. One of these recordings, in which he used particularly exotic and "primitive" instruments and which brought him great success, was also the trigger for a new collaboration with the television producer Harry Akkerman . From 1971 he withdrew from show business and turned his attention to educational music.
