The hydropower plant Emmer reservoir is located on the Emmer in the Lippe district in East Westphalia-Lippe .
History of origin
The Emmer river was dammed between Schieder and Harzberg to form the Schiedersee (Emmerstausee) in 1983 . At the dam there was a water level difference of around 10 meters between sea level and the flowing river. In 1996 the Wesertal energy supply company built a fully automatic hydropower plant with an output of 0.3 megawatts . Today the successor operator of Wesertal, Energieservice Westfalen Weser GmbH , operates the plant. A large part of the water from the Emmer passes the turbine here and is used to generate electricity. The remaining part is drained via the hydraulically controllable weir without using any energy.
The power plant today
The power plant is somewhat hidden, but right next to the dam on the side facing away from the lake and can be visited free of charge all day.
In practical operation, the hydropower plant runs at less than 50% of its possible nominal output, as part of the usable water is drained via the hydraulically controllable weir on the dam.
Since May 8, 2015, the Emmer has been flowing through an artificially created river bed, north of the Emmer reservoir. The necessary lifeline has been removed from the power plant and it is shut down.
