Traces of water are water installations in Hann. Münden in southern Lower Saxony , which was created in 2000 as an official project for the EXPO 2000 world exhibition . For this purpose, three squares were redesigned to allow water to become visible again in the center of the three-river city . Significant damage to the facilities was found in 2013. They were then switched off.

description

The Water Traces project was one of 280 official Expo projects in Germany. It was created in 1998 in Hann. Münden in cooperation with citizens, students, town planners, artists and the city administration. Three central inner city squares were redesigned from an artistic, ecological and water-hydraulic perspective. In 1999 archaeological rescue excavations were carried out in the affected areas . Drainage channels and ditches were found in the ground, with which the flood and rainwater used to be carried out of the city. The project was inaugurated in May 2000 by Doris Schröder-Köpf as the wife of the then Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder .

After significant damage to the water installations became known, they were shut down around 2013. A complete renovation has not yet been decided (2016). In total, the repairs are estimated to cost more than 200,000 euros. Because of the high costs, the city administration is considering a reduced reactivation with the consent of the participating artists. Individual installations are working again today (2016), while others are still out of order.

Components

Fan fountain with the high column

The starting point for the flowing water is the fan fountain with the high column on the church square. It is a several meter high brass column, also known as the water king, which is filled with rainwater from the Blasius Church and the Münden town hall . Then the water flows in bronze figures of the stone fountain, which give off it in jets.

Water carpet

The water carpet consists of three bodies of water that are located between the town hall and the church. They are only a few centimeters high filled with water, lie next to each other and are arranged in terraces. The water surface can be moved by a vibrating plate or a wave plate so that waves are created. There are three sound light points on the water carpet that emit light and sound and thereby produce moving wave images on the town hall wall at night.

Speier series

There are five granite steles of different heights on the church square, which were created by Hans-Werner Kalkmann and his son. The steles serve as gargoyles that spray or radiate water depending on the temperature.

Series air

The series Luft is on a wall of the town hall. It is a stainless steel column anchored to the outer wall, to which four sheet metal weather vanes are attached at a great height. The angle of the flags indicate the degree of humidity. In the lower area there are blue light-emitting diodes on the column , by means of which the humidity of the last 24 hours can be read.

Bass record

The bass plate is an oversized bronze manhole cover created by Wolfgang Roßdeutscher . The Beeke , which flows openly in a gutter , flows into it. From the drain of the bass plate , the water is led underground into a cistern for reuse.

Beeke

The Beeke is a watercourse flowing in the gutter, which connects all three places, and flows into the bass plate .

scattering

The scattering consists of bronze and ceramic stones, which are laid individually in the road surface in a track at a distance of meters. They have a relief surface, in the depressions of which rainwater remains and small traces of water can be experienced. Some stones are from citizens and students from Hann. Münden was made.

Sound gully

Sound gully

There are three sound gullies as manhole covers which emit sounds and tones on phone call.
