Water tower (Bad Soden)
The water tower in Bad Soden am Taunus is a listed building above the city and is now used as a lookout tower. Its renovation was awarded the Hessian Monument Protection Prize in 2000.
The tower
The tower on the outskirts of Bad Soden on Niederhofheimer Straße is located on a hill at 186 meters above sea level . It has a height of 21 meters. On one side of the round building, there is also a round staircase, in which a spiral staircase leads over 64 steps past the steel water tank into the only room in the tower below the roof.
The water tower was built in 1911. The Sinai nursery existed around the tower . Since the water pressure was insufficient to irrigate the extensive facilities of the nursery, the tower was built by them.
The redevelopment
With the improvement of pumping technology and the closure of the nursery, the tower lost its function. The tower was falling into disrepair. The renovation of the tower included a new roof and the facade. The renovation was honored with several awards, including the Hessian Monument Protection Prize. The renovation was carried out by the local branch of the German Nature Conservation Union , which invested more than 3000 working hours. A number of endangered species such as barn owls , kestrels , swifts and bats find nesting opportunities in the tower.
The tower room with its open beams is used as an exhibition room for natural history topics and as a lookout point.
