The Großmaischeid water tower is the landmark and next to the Catholic parish church St. Bonifatius one of the historical sights in the Westerwald local community Großmaischeid in the district of Neuwied in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Location and description

The water tower is elevated on the southern outskirts on Kausener Straße (the district road 117 leading into the district of Kausen ). Due to its exposed location, it towers over the other buildings in the town, shapes the silhouette and forms a landmark .

The two lower floors of the tower with its square floor plan were built using the wall construction method. The plastered walls, each with a window on each side and floor, are painted beige, while the corner pilasters are kept white. The third floor, on which the elevated tank used to be, protrudes slightly over the tower shaft. It also has an approximately square floor plan, but the corners are bevelled and is constructed in a half-timbered construction . The pyramid roof is slated and has a roof lantern .

History and current use

The tower was built in 1922/23 and served its original purpose from around 1924 to 1968. In the last few years it has been gutted and renovated. The building, which is now a listed building, is now used for cultural events.
