Wassili Wassiljewitsch Lewaschow ( Russian Василий Васильевич Левашов ; * 10 October July / 21 October  1783 greg .; † 23 September July / 5 October  1848 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian general and statesman who was under the tsars Alexander I and Nicholas I served. He went through a successful military career with the Imperial Guards, in which he distinguished himself in the Napoleonic Wars , but also participated in the suppression of the Decembrist uprising in December 1825. He later became military and civil governor in Kiev and governor general in Kharkov. Levaschow was then for 10 years a member of the Russian State Council , the highest political body in Russia at the time, and chaired its economic committee. In January 1847 he reached the height of his political influence when he became chairman of the State Council. He held this position until his death.

military service

On February 19, 1799 greg. he entered the Petersburg civil administration, but became greg on March 25, 1801 . taken over as major by the cuirassiers of the imperial guard .

During Napoleon's Russian campaign , he served in a cuirassier division and took part in the battles of Smolensk , Borodino , Tarutino , Malojaroslavets and Krasnoye .

During the spring campaign of 1813 of the Wars of Liberation , he fought near Großgörschen and Bautzen and took part in the battle of Dresden in the autumn campaign of 1813 .

He took over on September 22, 1813 greg. the Novgorod Cuirassier Regiment and led it to the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , in which he was wounded several times.

During the winter campaign of 1814, Lewaschow took part in the battles at Brienne , Arcis-sur-Aube , Fère-Champenoise and Paris .

From May 6, 1815 greg. until June 3, 1822 greg. he led a hussar regiment of the imperial bodyguard. During this time he became greg on February 20, 1817 . appointed adjutant general of the tsar and at times also led a brigade of the guard cavalry.

In 1821 Levaschow first appeared as a military judge .

On June 5, 1824 Greg. he received command of the 2nd Brigade of the Light Cavalry Division of the Guard Grenadiers.

In December 1825 Levaschow took part in the bloody suppression of the Decembrist uprising and also became a member of the criminal court that tried the Decembrists, and thus jointly responsible for the large number of death and banishment sentences.

January 13, 1826 Greg. Levatschow was promoted to lieutenant general and from July 13, 1826 commanded greg. the first Guard Cuirassier Division.

Governor in Kiev and Kharkov

On February 3, 1832, Greg. Levaschow was appointed military governor of Kiev and vice governor of Podolia and Volhynia . Just a month later, he was also the civil governor of Kiev.

On July 13, 1833 Greg. Levaschow was raised to the nobility and on December 18, 1833 greg. promoted to general of the cavalry .

From December 21, 1835 greg. until November 10, 1836 greg. Levaschow was Governor General of Kharkov .

Work in the Russian State Council

With effect from January 13, 1838 greg. Levaschow became a member of the Russian State Council and works from then on in the economic department, which he chaired on February 8, 1839 . took over. On May 24, 1841, Greg. Levaschow was also chairman of the committee that was responsible for supplying the imperial cavalry with horses. On February 8, 1842, Greg. he became a member of the commission that oversaw the construction of the railway from Saint Petersburg to Moscow.

From January 13, 1847 greg. until his death on October 5, 1848 greg. Levaschow was chairman of the Russian State Council.
