The WA-30 Bijave is a two-seater glider produced by the French company Wassmer Aviation in Issoire . Bi- and Jave stands for two seats and the short form of Javelot , which roughly means throwing spit .
history
The WA-30 was developed from the single-seater Wassmer WA-21 Javelot II . The first flight took place on December 17, 1958. After a series of incidents, all copies were banned from take-off from August 1970 to spring 1972. During this time, the wings were reinforced.
construction
The Bijave is a two-seater, cantilevered shoulder- wing monoplane in a composite construction with a normal tail unit . The fuselage is made of steel tubes that are clad with fabric and fiberglass-reinforced plastic. The pilot seats are arranged one behind the other, the canopy is in two parts and both parts can be opened to the right for boarding. A side step makes it easier to get into the rear seat. The control surfaces are covered with fabric. The wings are made of wood, are covered with fabric behind the spar and have air brakes . The main landing gear can be retracted, there is a spring-loaded, wooden runner under the aircraft nose and a metal runner is located on the spur.
