The Gyeongju National Park ( 경주 역사 유적 지구 ) is the only historical national park in South Korea , it is located in the South Korean province of Gyeongsangbuk-do near the city of Gyeongju . In addition to Mount Namsan (494 m) and its stone reliefs, the park also includes parks and temples that contain a large number of national treasures , mainly from the Silla period of Korea.
Location and geography
This national park does not consist of a contiguous area, but of several districts in the area around the city of Gyeongju, only the Daebon district is a little further away on the Sea of Japan . The total area has an area of 137.1 km². Parts of the national park are also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Historic Sites of Gyeongju and Seokguram Temple and Bulguksa Temple .
Flora and fauna
Since the focus of this park is based on the preservation of the historically significant sites, an in-depth study of the flora and fauna in this park began in 2008. The Japanese red pine and the mandarin duck are common .
