The Hallyeohaesang National Park ( 한려 해상 국립 공원 Hallyeohaesang gungnip-gongwon ) was established on December 31, 1968 as the first marine national park in South Korea. It is one of four marine national parks on the coast of South Korea .

location

The national park is located southwest of the port city of Busan and is spread over six districts: Sangju-Geumsan, Namhaedaegyo, Dingon, Tongyeong-Hansan, Geoje-Haegeumgang and Yeosu-Odongdo. The total area of ​​the park is 545.63 km², of which 395.49 km² are water and 150.14 km² are land. The park can be roughly divided into a western and an eastern part. The eastern part is located on the island of Geojedo and includes the southeast coast of this island, the islands of Mireukudo , Hansando and some smaller islands, the western part is located on the island of Namhaedo with protected areas in the north and south of the island and on several smaller islands.

Flora and fauna

Geojedo Island is an important retreat for the critically endangered nymph pitta . Among the plant species are the orchid species Sedirea japonica , the Japanese black pine and the Korean winter hazel . The islands of Haegeumgang and Bijindo are famous for the palsoni tree, a type of tree that is only found there.
