Philipp Franz Reinald Victurnian Prince von Croÿ (born November 26, 1801 in Dülmen , † August 2, 1871 in Bad Ems ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Philipp von Croy came from the old, originally from County Ponthieu in the Picardie coming noble family de Croy , which was first mentioned in the 12th century. He was a son of the Spanish grandee and German imperial prince August Duke of Croÿ , (1765-1822) from the line Solre and Anne Victurienne Henriette de Rochechouart-Montemart (1773-1806). Duke Alfred von Croÿ (1789–1861) and the Dutch Major General Ferdinand von Croÿ (1791–1865) were his brothers.

Career

Croÿ was initially in the Dutch military service as a lieutenant in 1819 until he switched to the Prussian army in 1826 and was aggregated as a second lieutenant with a patent from 1819 in the Guard Landwehr Cavalry Regiment . He was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in 1829 , was aggregated to the 5th Uhlan Regiment in 1832 , was promoted to Rittmeister in 1833 and was promoted to Major in 1842 , where he was aggregated to the 8th Hussar Regiment at the same time . In March 1845 he became squadron chief in the Guard Dragoon Regiment , where he was a regular staff officer from November of the same year . In October 1848 King Friedrich Wilhelm IV appointed him his wing adjutant . Croÿ rose to lieutenant colonel in 1849 , was commander of the 4th Hussar Regiment in 1850 and was promoted to Colonel in 1851. In 1851 he was also commander of the 2nd Guard Uhlan Regiment and in 1853 commander of the 13th Cavalry Brigade . He was promoted to major general in 1854. He was relieved of his position as brigade commander in 1857 while being appointed general à la suite . Croÿ then changed in 1858 with the character of Lieutenant General and his previous uniform to the officers à la suite of the army. In 1861 he received the Order of the Red Eagle First Class and in 1868 the patent as Lieutenant General.

In 1856 he took part in the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Westphalia as a representative of his brother Alfred .

family

In 1824 he married Princess Johanna Wilhelmina zu Salm-Salm (1796–1868), a daughter of Prince Konstantin zu Salm-Salm (1762–1828) and Countess Maria Walburga von Sternberg-Manderscheid (1770–1806). The marriage had eight children.
