Wayne Braithwaite (born August 9, 1975 in Georgetown / Guyana ) is a professional boxer and former world cruiserweight champion .

In 1997 Braithwaite won his first professional fight by technical knockout in round 4. On July 25, 1998 , he then won his first minor title. Wayne Braithwaite became the Guyana Cruiserweight Champion. Half a year later he was already in his seventh professional fight world cruiserweight champion in the rather insignificant association WBB. In the same year (1999) he became WBC International Champion. He became NABF World Champion in 2000. In this fight, he also had to defend his WBC International belt. Braithwaite won by technical knockout in Round 8 against the highly regarded Dale Brown .
On October 11, 2002, Braithwaite then won the vacant WBC world cruiserweight championship belt. The fight was canceled in the tenth round. The next two title defenses in 2003 were ended prematurely, once in the fourth and once in the first round. On April 17, 2004, Braithwaite won again, this time by unanimous decision. It took him a whole year to get back in the ring. A title union took place. Wayne Braithwaite, the cruiserweight champion according to the version of the WBC, against the WBA world champion Jean-Marc Mormeck . Mormeck won just on points. It was Braithwaite's first loss in his 22nd professional fight.
5 months later Braithwaite lost prematurely to Guillermo Jones in the fight for the WBA Fedelatin and the WBC Latino cruiserweight titles. After that, Braithwaite resigned from boxing.
His comeback took place on February 3, 2007. Wayne Braithwaite won by technical knockout in round 7 and in the next fight he was allowed to box again for the WBO belt. Without a chance he lost against his opponent Enzo Maccarinelli , who thus remained world champion. On March 29, 2008 Braithwaite boxed again for the WBA Fedelatin and the WBC Latino title. The title holder was the undefeated Yoan Pablo Hernández . After KO in the third round, Braithwaite won the fight and was thus the new WBA Fedelatin and WBC Latino cruiserweight champion.
