Wayne Tucker

Wayne Tucker (* 1986 or 1987) is an American jazz musician ( trumpet , composition ) who plays in the hard bop tradition.

Live and act

Tucker grew up in Syracuse, New York and took music lessons from the age of three; his father is the pianist Derrick Trucks. At the age of 15 he began to take private lessons on the trumpet, after having played autodidactically for three years . In 2009 he graduated from the State University of New York, Purchase , in the jazz program ; since then he lives in Brooklyn and works in the New York jazz scene a. a. with Camille Harris ( Silly Jazz ), Cyrille Aimée , Bob Mintzer , Delfeayo Marsalis , Elvis Costello and Addison Frei ( Transit , 2016).

Under his own name, Tucker released his debut album When I Was a Child (OneTrickDog Records) in 2016 , on which he recorded his own compositions and arrangements (such as Dizzy Gillespie'sCon Alma ”) that include jazz and classical music as well as other styles such as gospel , Pop, middle eastern music, hip-hop and R&B were influenced. Contributors were Jason Marshall (musician) Jason Marshall , Sullivan Fortner , Yasushi Nakamura and Cyrille Aimee (in "Dream Deterred") and J. Nathaniel Reed (in the Stevie Wonder song "I Can't Help It"). Tucker currently leads his own quintet, which includes Miles Tucker (tenor saxophone), Hila Kulik (piano), Tamir Shmerling (bass) and Joaquin Ramirez (drums).
