On June 22, 1788 there was a major fire that destroyed several buildings in the village. In 1910 Wedringen had 770 inhabitants. In 1933 the number had dropped to 711 residents. In 1939 there were 741 inhabitants, in 1993 only 599 inhabitants were counted. The Lüneburg Heerstraße once ran through the town, and it led via Haldensleben, Calvörde and Braunschweig to Lüneburg .

On June 12, 1929, the village's volunteer fire department was founded. She uses the fire station built in 1958 , which was modernized in 2002. Wedringen is the location of several craft businesses.
