Ways to People is a German magazine for pastoral care and advice, healing and social action .

history

Initiator and editor of the of Sept. 1949 to Sept. 1950 in Brunnen Verlag and since October 1950 at Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht appearing monthly magazine for pastoral care, psychotherapy and education , entitled The Path to the Soul (1949 to 1953 1 to 5 vol. ) was Klaus Thomas . In 1954 (6th year) the magazine was renamed Weg zum Menschen (WzM), delivered with the supplement Der Weg zum Kranken and since then has been published six times a year, each with around 90 pages.

With the name change, the first editors ( Klaus Thomas , DW Gruehn , JH Schultz ) are already shifting the focus of the magazine : There is not only one way to the soul , there are numerous ways; it's not just about the soul, the magazine is supposed to focus on the whole person “ in the sense of the body and soul unity of the human being” .

Ways to people is an organ of the Evangelical Conference for Family and Life Counseling , the German Society for Pastoral Psychology (DGfP) and the Conference for Evangelical Hospital Pastoral Care . The theologian and psychoanalyst Joachim Scharfenberg was the responsible editor of the magazine for many decades. The digital editions of the articles are usually published on the magazine's website two to four weeks before the printed edition is delivered.

The publishing house handed over the archive of the WzM magazine to the Berlin State Library in 2011 .

Content design

The way to people is now understood as a platform for the discussion between psychology and theology, medicine, sociology and education . The magazine publishes articles on borderline questions of human life, explosive topics and information for professional groups who have to do with people:

  • as psychologists, psychiatrists and doctors,
  • as pastor in hospitals, parishes, counseling centers,
  • as educators, sociologists, social workers and social educators.

In addition to articles and studies on theory and practice in the various specialist disciplines, the journal also contains reviews and current information. Before the spread of the Internet, the magazine was also considered, among other things, as an information medium on further training opportunities, for example in clinical pastoral care and other disciplines.
