The Evangelical fortified church Schaala in the district Schaala the city of Rudolstadt in Saalfeld-Rudolstadt in Thuringia is surrounded by a wall at a once strategically important access to the site and the Saale valley .

history

The village church is one of the most perfect fortified churches in Thuringia, its oldest part is from the 12th century or earlier.

The choir was added in the 16th century . A plastered, ogival wooden barrel arches over the simple long house with two-story galleries .

The pinnacle tower is equipped with loopholes .

The late Gothic carved altar comes from a school in Saalfeld .
