The White Platz is a square in Munich " French quarter " in the district of Haidhausen . In the middle of the concentric square is the " Glaspalastbrunnen ", which August von Voit designed in 1853 . This was initially located in the Glass Palace in the Old Botanical Garden - hence the name. At the end of the 19th century, the fountain was moved to Orleansplatz . When the Munich East train station located there was rebuilt, the Glaspalastbrunnen had to give way and was moved to the nearby Weißenburger Platz. After dark, the fountain's water feature is illuminated.

Flowerbeds are laid out around the glass palace fountain, which are planted several times a year. This circular green area is framed by a row of trees, beneath which there are benches, and by a ring-shaped street that is partly a pedestrian zone . Five streets run towards Weißenburger Platz in a star shape: from both sides Metzstrasse and Weißenburger Strasse as well as Lothringer Strasse, in which the municipal art gallery Lothringer13 is located near the square . In the buildings that surround Weißenburger Platz there are various shops, restaurants , a pharmacy and a medical center.

A Christmas market has been held on Weißenburger Platz since 1976 and has grown steadily over the years. In the meantime, the Weißenburger Platz is being built over with over 60 stalls for the Christmas market, which takes place annually from the end of November until Christmas.

The naming and design of the French Quarter have a historical background: When this quarter was laid out in 1872 after the German victory in the Franco-Prussian War (1870/1871), the planners decided to create squares and streets based on the French model. Therefore the streets run towards the squares in a star shape. At the same time, these got their names from places where German armies won battles during the Franco-Prussian War. The battle of Weißenburg gives this place its name. Here the French army suffered a defeat in 1870. Today the small town in Alsace is no longer called Weißenburg, but Wissembourg .
