Clemens Honrath winery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Clemens Honrath winery in Langenlonsheim is a winery in the Nahe wine-growing region in Germany .

history

The Honrath family has been growing wine on the Nahe since the 18th century .

In 1977 Clemens Honrath took over the former cooperative business from his father Franz Honrath. In the same year, Clemens Honrath decided to leave the wine cooperative . By acquiring additional vineyards in the Langenlonsheimer Königsschild, Löhrer Berg and Rothenberg sites , he created a basis for the production of quality and predicate wines . In 2007 the succession was secured by the entry of son Christian Honrath into the family business.

In 2002/2003 the winery presented the German Wine Queen . After her successful tenure as the Nahe Wine Queen , Judith Honrath, the daughter of Clemens Honrath, took part in the 2002 election as German Wine Queen in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse . After the expert survey in front of 70 jury members , she was able to prevail against her competitors from other wine-growing regions in Germany. For a year she was traveling around the world for German wine and attended well over 200 appointments.

Grape varieties

To a total of 6 hectare vineyard (of which 1.5 ha VDP -klassifizierte layers) 30% Riesling and 15% each Gris and Pinot grown. In the red grape varieties, the focus is on Pinot Noir and Acolon .

Locations

The best locations of the winery include the Langenlonsheimer Königsschild, the Langenlonsheimer Löhrer Berg and the Langenlonsheimer Rothenberg.

Langenlonsheim King's Shield

The geological shape of this vineyard is reminiscent of the shape of the king's shield, which resembles a parabolic mirror . Like many soils on the lower Nahe , the soil in the Königsschild is also a homogeneous weathered soil . The upper soil layers are interspersed with fossil shell limestone .

Langenlonsheimer Löhrer Berg

The "empty, desolate mountain", today Löhrer Berg, was completely cleared in the 18th century and replanted with Riesling vines. For this location it is documented that Riesling cultivation began here on the Nahe. The soil consists of a mixture of loess and loam, which can store moisture well for a long time, even in dry years. The constant availability of water improves the uptake of nutrients by the vines.

Langenlonsheimer Rothenberg

About twenty years after the Löhrer Berg was cleared, what was then Martinsberg (now Rothenberg) was also cleared and rebuilt. The vineyard is located in the west of Langenlonsheim and has slopes of up to 45% due south. The soil consists of red weathered rock and is rich in fossils. It is a light soil that warms up quickly due to its intense red color.

Awards

The first wines of the winery already performed successfully at the state awards for wine and sparkling wine from the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture . In 1981 Clemens Honrath received the state honor award for outstanding achievements in the field of viticulture . The estate's range of wines is still awarded annually at the regional wine and sparkling wine awards. In the 2013/2014 award year, the winery received 6 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze chamber award coins. For this, the estate received the "House of Award-winning Wines 2014" award. The Chamber of Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture and Viticulture are thus awarding another award to the winemakers who have won a particularly large number of medals in the current award year.

In 2012 Christian Honrath presented the Edelschliff with his 2011 Riesling Auslese from Langenlonsheimer Löhrer Berg. Weinland Nahe eV and the Deutsche Edelsteinstrasse eV select the best Riesling selection from the Nahe every year with the help of a jury made up of wine experts, winemakers and journalists. 17 winemakers with a total of 22 wines took part in the competition.
