The Maximin Grünhaus winery in Grünhaus (Mertesdorf) produces Ruwer wine in the Moselle wine-growing region in Germany .

history

The origins of viticulture on the Grüneberg (Trier) go back to Roman times . In 633 Dagobert I donated the property on the Grüneberg to the St. Maximin Monastery in Trier. This possession was confirmed by Otto I in 966 . Maximin Grünhaus was managed by the Benedictine Abbey until 1802 .

After the secularization under Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte , the estate was under French administration until 1810. In that year, after an auction, the first secular owner bought the winery, which the mining industrialist Carl Ferdinand Freiherr von Stumm-Halberg acquired in 1882 as a dowry for his daughter Ida Louise on the occasion of her marriage to the later General Conrad von Schubert . Since 1981 the estate has been managed by Carl-Ferdinand von Schubert. He was Winemaker of the Year by Gault Millau and has received numerous other awards. The winery has been a member of the Association of German Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) since January 2016 .
