The Weitmannsee is located east of the Lech, west of Kissing in the Aichach-Friedberg district ( Swabia , Bavaria ).
history
The Weitmannsee was created by gravel mining by the Weitmann company. During the dismantling process at the time with a floating bucket chain excavator , the excavator worked its way track by track into the terrain. This resulted in very different water depths (max. 6 m). The over 30 islands were created by the overburden that was poured into the lake when a new track was being dredged with a large grab excavator.
Recreation area
The Weitmannsee between Lech and Friedberger Ach , created by gravel mining, is now a large recreational area. A large car park, bathing facilities for children and adults, extensive lawns for sunbathing and playing, children's playground, beach volleyball field, hiking trails, riverside path (3 km), a restaurant with public toilet facilities and a DLRG station are available to visitors. The recreation area can be reached via the B2 . Kuhsee , Auensee , Ilsesee and Mandichosee are located near the Weitmannsee (along the Lech) and can also be easily reached by bike.
