Welchness is a pebbly headland that forms the western foothills of Dundee Island in the Joinville Islands archipelago off the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula . It also marks the southwest boundary of Petrel Cove .
Participants of the Dundee Whaling Expedition (1892-1893) roughly mapped it and gave it its name. It is named after the captain and whaling partner George Welch (1814-1891) from Dundee , whose Jay Whale Fishing Company owned the whaler Active , one of the ships on the expedition.
