action

The English film director Emil Forester has been unsuccessful since his short film Oscar. When he received an offer from the President of the recently founded Caucasus Republic of Karastan to make a monumental film about a Karastan folk hero, he sensed his chance. Hollywood action star Xan Butler and the pretty Chulpan have already been hired as leading actors. Although the country is anything but democratic governed, Emil agrees, also because he has been promised unlimited financial resources. Soon, however, the sensitive auteur filmmaker is confronted with the absurdities of the country, and the filming with thousands of extras threatens to get out of hand. On top of that, there is also a military uprising.

criticism

The film service describes the film as a “superficial satire about an opaque state”, which “hardly explores the conflict of the commissioned artist in the service of a dictator” and “rather indulges in grotesque exaggerations in the style of ' Borat '”. In addition, the "political dimensions [...] would be softened by a winking action film parody".
