World ahoy!

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

World ahoy! was a weekly satirical magazine that was broadcast from November 2009 to December 19, 2010 by the Austrian public broadcaster ORF on its channel Ö1 . The broadcast slot was every Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

World ahoy! was designed by the five Austrian cabaret artists and actors Martin Puntigam , Maria Hofstätter , Thomas Maurer , Robert Palfrader and Hosea Ratschiller .

Broadcast slot and history

The show Welt Ahoi! was conceived as the follow-up program to the satirical program Guglhupf, which has been running uninterruptedly at this slot for 31 years . This suffered from constantly falling audiences and formal and content-related wear and tear. The protagonists Lore Krainer , Herbert Prikopa and Kurt Sobotka were between 75 and 80 years old when the program was set.

Creation, conception and production

After the decision to replace the Guglhupf , Ö1 boss Alfredreiber commissioned Martin Puntigam to create the concept. World ahoy! was not produced in the radio studios of the Funkhaus Wien because the diverse commitments and activities of the five artists did not go well with the tight schedule and production schedule required there. The production took place in an external studio. The ORF contractually guaranteed a term of at least three years.

course

The first show, broadcast on November 1, 2009, enjoyed a strong response, especially when compared to the calm and withdrawn broadcast environment. Alfred Driver's quasi prophetically expressed hope that World Ahoi might “stir up the consecration morning a bit” came true. Immediately after the broadcast, the ORF servers collapsed for half a day under the onslaught of protest calls. On December 19, 2010, the show was broadcast for the last time. Days before, it was canceled by the broadcaster between the broadcast team and Ö1 on the grounds that there were “different conceptions of content about the future of the show”.
