Welt im Spiegel (WimS) was a double-sided column in the satirical monthly magazine pardon , published from 1964 to 1976 by the Frankfurt publishing house Bärmeier & Nikel .

Here published under different pseudonyms especially its three inventors, the poets, authors and illustrators Robert Gernhardt , FW Bernstein and FK Waechter short texts in which they with many journalistic and literary genres from the simple message on the comment to the features section and poetry played . In addition, WimS was characterized by numerous cartoons (e.g. Jochen by F. K. Waechter) and comic strips (e.g. Schnuffi's adventures by R. Gernhardt) or (alienated) photos. The Latin motto appeared in the head section of WimS : "PRO BONO - CONTRA MALUM" (For the good, against the bad).

WimS is considered a forerunner of nonsense , a form of German humor that was later introduced by Otto Waalkes et al. a. became popular and is characterized by the fact that the form itself becomes the object of satire, for example by sweating the provincialism of a newspaper report. Similar to the English television series Monty Python's Flying Circus with regard to the medium of television, WimS took up current forms and clichés of the newspaper landscape. In doing so, the authors expect their readers to have a comprehensive general education as well as mental agility and, last but not least, a certain tolerance towards daring puns that have not been daring in German-language literature since poets like Morgenstern , Ringelnatz or Eugen Roth .

Others

The term "verWimSen" used by the editorial staff meant the conversion of real people, events, reports and opinions to the level of "higher nonsense", which in turn revealed the everyday madness.
