World Energy Council
The World Energy Council (WEC, German: Weltenergierat ) is a global organization with member committees in over 90 countries. Its members are mainly large energy producers and traders , plus some government bodies, research and energy consumer organizations. The WEC offers its members a variety of services, including research , analysis and strategy recommendations on energy sources such as coal , oil , gas and renewable energies . The seat is in London .
The idea for the foundation came from Daniel Nicol Dunlop in the 1920s , who wanted to bring together energy experts from all over the world to discuss current and future energy issues. To this end, Dunlop organized in 1923 national committees in the first 1924 World Power Conference (WPC) ( World Power Conference resulted). 1,700 experts from 40 countries met in London to discuss energy issues. The meeting was so successful that on July 11, 1924, those present agreed to establish the conference as a permanent organization. The name chosen was World Power Conference and Dunlop was named first chairman. In 1968 the name was changed to World Energy Conference and in 1992 to the current form in World Energy Council .
