Welyka Obuchiwka ( Ukrainian Велика Обухівка ; Russian Великая Обуховка Velikaja Obuchowka ) is a village in the Ukrainian Poltava Oblast with about 700 inhabitants (2001).

Welyka Obuchiwka is the administrative center of the same District municipality in the northeast of myrhorod raion on the border Rayon Hadiach to the still villages Panassiwka ( Панасівка , ) with about 90 inhabitants and Sakaliwka ( Сакалівка , belong) with about 70 residents.

The village is located at 117  m altitude on the right bank of the meandering Psel , a left tributary of the Dnieper . Velyka Obukhivka is located on the T-17-26 territorial road 40 km northeast of the Myrhorod district center and 100 km northwest of the Poltava oblast center .

In the village, which was founded in the first half of the 17th century, Cossacks and citizens from the banks of the Dnepr ( Obuchiw , Kaniw ) first settled. In the 18th and 19th centuries the village was owned by the Kapnist family. The member of the family, the writer Wassili Kapnist (1753–1823) was born here and died here. The film actress Marija Kapnist (1914–1993), who died in Kiev and also belongs to the family , was buried in the village. In 2008 a monument was erected in the village for the son of Vasily Kapnist.
