Wendelin Morgenthaler

Wendelin Morgenthaler (born October 18, 1888 in Fautenbach ; † April 22, 1963 in Achern ) was a German educator and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending grammar school, Morgenthaler completed the teachers' seminar and then worked as a primary school teacher. He took part in the First World War as a soldier , then worked again in the school service and in 1926 became the main teacher in Achern. In 1935 he was transferred to prison, then arrested after the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944. He later worked as a principal at an elementary school.

Morgenthaler joined the Center Party in 1910 . After the National Socialists came to power, he was removed from his political offices.

After 1945 Morgenthaler joined the CDU. He was a member of the district council of Bühl . He was a member of the German Bundestag from its first election in 1949 to 1957. As a directly elected member, he represented the Rastatt constituency in parliament.

Morgenthaler was mayor of the city of Achern from 1945 to 1955.
