The little-leaved poppy , also known as Turkish poppy or oriental poppy ( Papaver paucifoliatum (Trautv.) Fedde., Papaver orientale var. Paucifoliatum Trautv. Is probably a synonym for Papaver orientale L.) belongs to the genus poppy ( Papaver ) within the poppy family (Papaveraceae) . Whether it is a separate species or a subspecies of the Turkish poppy was controversial in 1974 or is probably a synonym for Papaver orientale .

The little-leaved poppy occurs in Transcaucasia , Lazistan , Akhaltsikhe , Azerbaijan and western and northern Persia as well as eastern Turkey, in the Çoruhtal and the area of Ardanuç and in the province of Kars , for example on the Kısır Dağ . It thrives in the subalpine vegetation level at altitudes between 1800 and 2800 meters on meadows and scree slopes.
