Wenceslaus Joseph von Colloredo

Wenzel Joseph Graf Colloredo-Mels and Wallsee (born October 15, 1738 in Vienna , †  September 4, 1822 in Vienna) was an Austrian field marshal .

Life

Wenzel Joseph was a son of the first prince of Colloredo -Mels and Wallsee, Rudolf Joseph . In 1784 he became Lieutenant Field Marshal , Chief of Infantry Regiment No. 56 and during the Turkish War in 1789 Feldzeugmeister . In 1792 he fought with success in the Netherlands against France, in the following year 1793 he took part in the Battle of Neer winds . With his corps under the Duke of Coburg, he secured the line from Onnaing and Estrées and maintained the siege of Maubeuge during the battle of Wattignies . During the siege of Mainz (1795) his third column with 5 battalions, 22 squadrons and 3 batteries was supposed to take Bretzenheim and demonstrate against the French center .

In 1796 he became regional commander of Moravia and then inspector of the military border.

The Ballei Koblenz was headed by Colloredo from 1805 to 1806 as the last land commander. From 1807 he held the office of President of the Politico-Economic Committee at the Court War Council . In 1808 he was appointed field marshal .

Count Wenzel Joseph Colloredo-Mels and Wallsee died on September 4, 1822 in Vienna.
