Václav Vladivoj Tomek
Václav Vladivoj Tomek , also Wenzel Wladiwoj Tomek , Wáclaw Wladiwoj Tomek , Vácslav Vladivoj Tomek (born May 31, 1818 in Hradec Králové ; † June 12, 1905 in Prague ) was a Bohemian historian, politician and educator.
Life
Václav Vladivoj Tomek, son of a shoemaker, studied philosophy in Prague since 1833 , later law. During his studies he taught in the family of Pavel Josef Šafařík . Safarik became his advisor and promoter. From 1839 he taught in the Palácký family. In 1841 he entered the service of the city, in 1848 he was elected as a member of parliament. In 1850 he was appointed professor at the German Charles University in Prague , but in 1882 he moved to the new Czech university. From 1861 to 1866 he was a member of the Bohemian Landtag and the Austrian Imperial Council and from 1885 a member of the manor house . In 1878 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg .

At František Palacký's suggestion, Tomek wrote a history of Prague (1855 ff., Vol. 1–7). In the dispute about the authenticity of some manuscripts, he stood at the side of those who advocated their authenticity, such as Václav Josef Kalousek , Josef Emler or Martin Hattala . He also published textbooks. He was supported by his student Antonín Rezek .
