The residential building Werderstrasse 142 in Heilbronn is a listed building. It was built in 1900 for the master baker W. Springer according to plans by the architect Schulz from Heilbronn.

history

The house was built together with the construction of the entire street when the Bottwartalbahn was built in 1900. The draft of the street envisaged it as the central axis of the historic workers' residential area at Heilbronn Südbahnhof as early as 1873. At that time, the city architect Reinhard Baumeister designed the new city plan, which also included the construction of a new workers' residential area at the Südbahnhof.

In 1950 the house was owned by Wilhelm Springer's heirs. Friedrich Krail's transport company used the office on the ground floor. In 1961 the house was still owned by the community of heirs and six tenants are named.

description

The house is a three-storey, orange-colored brick building without any plaster, whereby the facade was decorated with an ornamental sculpture in sandstone and stone details. According to the monument topography, this can be seen, for example, from the various window roofs .

The monument topography describes every single window roofing on the first floor and the windows in the central axis of the house and speaks of an “ emphasis on the bel étage and the central axis ”: the central window on the first floor shows a shell as the crowning of the window . The window above shows a window canopy, which consists of a simple cornice and rests on consoles . The other windows on the first floor or the bel étage are twin windows and show a triangular gable as a window canopy.

Art historical significance

The house stands as an example of the “type of workers' house with late - historic neo - renaissance forms”. For this reason, it was placed under monument protection and thus elevated to a cultural monument .
