The Werfener Hochthron is with a height of 2363 m above sea level. A. the third highest and probably one of the most striking mountains in the Tennengebirge in the northern Limestone Alps . It rises on the southern edge of the extensive karst plateau and breaks off on all sides with impressive, steep rock faces. That is why it is also one of the most famous and popular mountains for climbers in the Tennengebirge. The great difference in altitude between the summit and Werfen in the valley of the Salzach , which is around 1800 meters, is remarkable . The panorama from the summit cross is extensive and allows a view over the entire Pongau and the Hochkönig towering opposite .
Routes
The Werfener Hochthron is one of the most demanding peaks in the Tennengebirge and can only be reached by climbing. The normal route leads over the south ridge to the summit and has a level of difficulty III- according to UIAA . It is marked and made easier by ropes in two places, but can only be walked by experienced mountaineers with surefootedness , a head for heights and climbing agility.
