Werner-Hans Schlegel

Werner-Hans Schlegel (born April 28, 1915 in Mosel ; † June 7, 2003 in Dresden ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

From 1933 to 1934 Schlegel attended the state painting school in Buxtehude , then the University of Applied Arts in Weimar with Paul Schultze-Naumburg . From 1940 to 1941 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden with Baranowsky and Paul Rößler before he was deported to Buchenwald in 1942.

From 1946 to 1955 he carried out various artistic activities in Zwickau , including as a lecturer for folk art at the adult education center and as an artistic advisor. He worked at the painting and drawing school with Carl Michel and in stage design at SDAG WISMUT .

From 1955 he was a freelance artist in Dresden . In the same year he was awarded the Southwest German Watercolor Prize of the city of Völklingen .

In 1996 his home community of Crossen granted him honorary citizenship. With the incorporation of Crossen into Zwickau on October 1st, 1996 Werner-Hans Schlegel was included in the list of honorary citizens of Zwickau . On this day the city of Zwickau received a donation of around 100 works from his work.

In addition to several personal exhibitions in the GDR, Schlegel was involved in exhibitions across Europe, including in Berlin, Budapest, Lyon and Warsaw.
