Werner Delle Karth (born May 18, 1941 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian bobsleigh driver , bobsleigh trainer and bobsleigh official.

Career

Delle Karth finished third in the 1972 European Bobsleigh Championships as a pilot . He won two medals at the FIBT World Championships in the four-man bobsleigh competition together with his brother Walter Delle Karth as well as Hans Eichinger and Fritz Sperling : silver in 1973 in Lake Placid and bronze in 1974 in St. Moritz. He took part in two Olympic Winter Games and achieved 6th place as the best result in the four-man bobsleigh competition at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck 1976 .

After completing his active career as an athlete in 1978, he worked as a trainer, initially in Canada from 1983 to 1988 . After the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 he went to Austria. At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, the four-man bobsleigh Ingo Appelt / Gerhard Haidacher / Harald Winkler / Thomas Schroll , supervised by Delle Karth, won the gold medal.

From 1999 until his retirement in 2010, Delle Karth was General Secretary of the Austrian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation.

family

Delle Karth's father Walter Delle Karth was a Nordic skier. Another brother, Dieter , was also a bobsleigh driver and took 6th place in the two-man bobsleigh at the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck . In addition, one of his sons, Nico , is a professional sailor who, with Nikolaus Resch as the crew, took first place in the world rankings in the 49er class, took part in four Summer Olympics and reached fourth place in London in 2012. Delle Karth's older son Jörg was a professional pilot and had a fatal accident in a helicopter mission in Gabon in 2012.
