Werner Fritz

Werner Fritz (born February 12, 1932 in Dessau ) is a German surgeon and pediatric surgeon .

Life

Werner Fritz was born in 1932 in Kleinkühnau , a district of Dessau, as the son of the simple worker Theodor Fritz and his wife Martha. After graduating from high school , he studied medicine at the Martin Luther University in Halle from 1952 to 1957 . He worked first as a compulsory, then as a scientific assistant at the Physiological and Pathological Institute, and later at the 1st Medical Clinic of the University. 1961 Werner Fritz was with a dissertation on "building a photoelectric Gerinnungsmeßapparatur and their testing in coagulation-physiological studies in electrical, central nervous system stimulation experiments on the dog" graduated and moved to the Department of Surgery, where he one to 1966 specialist training graduated in general surgery. He also received training in thoracic and cardiac surgery under Karl-Ludwig Schober .

In 1968 Fritz was appointed senior physician and head of the pediatric surgery department at the surgical university clinic in Halle . He completed his habilitation in 1986 with a thesis on "Possibilities and limits of the enzyme histotopochemical-biopsy diagnostics of congenital intestinal aganglionosis (Hirschsprung's disease)" and was appointed professor for pediatric surgery at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in October 1990 . In 1997 Werner Fritz retired . Rainer Finke was appointed his successor as head of the University Clinic for Pediatric Surgery.

Fritz was a board member of the section and later Society for Pediatric Surgery of the GDR , secretary, later 2nd Chairman of the Pediatric Surgery Section, 1st Chairman of the Working Group on Urinary Tract Surgery in Children and a member of the commission for the unification of both German pediatric surgical societies.

In addition to his medical and scientific work, Werner Fritz has been artistically active for many years. Even today he works mainly in the field of wood carving and participates in the project Ars Medicorum Halensis - Art of Halle Doctors .
