Werner Große

Werner Große (born November 9, 1949 in Glindow ) is a German lawyer , gardener and local politician . He is a member of the CDU . From 1990 to 2014 he was mayor of the city of Werder (Havel) . Werner Große has been an honorary citizen of the city since 2017 .

Live and act

Werner Große completed an apprenticeship as a skilled worker for fruit and vegetable production after leaving school. From 1969 to 1973 he studied at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg Jura with the conclusion diploma -Jurist. During his student days, Große joined the GDR CDU in 1971 . After completing his studies, Werner Große was Deputy Mayor of Werder from 1974 to 1978. He then moved to the district town of Potsdam , where he worked as a department head at the CDU district association. In the first local elections after the political change in 1989/90 in May 1990, Grosse was elected mayor of Werders. In addition to his work as mayor, for example, he had been president of the Brandenburg Association of Towns and Municipalities since 2002 .

Große went on a trip to Mongolia from May 23rd to 28th, 2004 in order to prepare the construction of a wellness and meeting place in Werder (Havel). The investor and co-operator of the Schwielowsee resort, Axel Hilpert , who had been convicted of subsidy fraud , had invited Große. Große and the district council chief Lothar Koch (SPD) who was also traveling with him had to pay a four-digit fine for accepting benefits in office.

In 2012 Werner Große fell ill with lung cancer . In the course of the therapy , he received one hundred percent severe damage and was out of office for more than a year. As a result, Grosse resigned from the mayor's office in 2014.

For the municipal elections in Brandenburg in 2014 , the CDU made him a candidate for the district council of the Potsdam-Mittelmark district , to which he was elected. On December 4, 2014 Werner Große was elected as the successor to his son Christian Große as the new chairman of the district council. He accepted the office on January 1, 2015.
