Brandenburg Association of Towns and Municipalities

The Brandenburg Association of Towns and Municipalities e. V. is the municipal umbrella association of cities, municipalities and offices in the state of Brandenburg with its seat in Potsdam .

Members and duties

The association currently (September 2019)

  • 4 independent cities,
  • 145 unofficial cities and municipalities (out of a total of 148 unofficial cities and municipalities),
  • 71 official cities and municipalities and
  • 51 offices (out of a total of 52 offices)

as members who represent over 98% of the inhabitants of the state of Brandenburg.

According to Section 2 (1) of its statutes, the association's tasks include the following:

  • to promote the idea of ​​self-government and to stand up for the realization and protection of the right to local self-government,
  • to protect and represent the common interests of its members,
  • to advise and support its members in all areas of public life,
  • to cultivate the exchange of experiences among the members and to promote the understanding of communal issues in the public,
  • to organize the exchange of knowledge and experience in the implementation of local self-government and
  • To provide assistance in the training, education and training of the members' staff.

Structure and organs

The association is organized as a registered association . According to § 2 of its statutes, the association exclusively and directly pursues non-profit and non-partisan goals and is selflessly active; it does not primarily pursue economic purposes.

According to § 7 of its statutes, the association has the following organs:

  • the general assembly
  • the state committee
  • the presidium
  • the president
  • the managing director

Memberships

The association is a member of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities and the German Association of Cities .
