Association of municipalities and cities of Thuringia

The Association of Municipalities and Cities of Thuringia e. V. is the central association of cities, municipalities and administrative communities in Thuringia with its seat in Erfurt . It was founded on March 29, 1990 in Bad Blankenburg .

Members and duties

The association currently (September 2019) includes 821 of the 827 Thuringian municipalities and 66 administrative communities .

According to Section 2 of its statutes, the association's tasks include:

  • to uphold and strengthen the right to community self-government;
  • securing and representing the common concerns and interests of its members;
  • the representation of the forest-owning municipalities;
  • the exchange of knowledge and experience on local politics and the advice of its members;
  • maintaining close ties to local associations in other countries and
  • public relations.

Structure and organs

The association is organized as a registered association . According to Section 1 (2) of its statutes, the association is a municipal umbrella association and does not aim to operate commercially.

According to Section 5 (1) of its statutes, the association has the following organs:

  • the general assembly,
  • the state committee,
  • the presidium,
  • the board.

Memberships

The association is a member of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities and the German Association of Cities .
