Werner Härtling

Werner Härtling (born 1923 in Dortmund ; † April 4, 1955 in Witten ) was a German wrestler .

He learned to wrestle in Witten and became German youth champion in 1941. In 1942 he was drafted into the Navy and was stationed in Wilhelmshaven . There were also other good wrestlers like Albert Laudien and Herbert Krauskopf , so there were enough training partners available. Therefore he quickly reached the top German class in the light and welterweight class. After the war he returned to Dortmund and became a member of the most successful German team at the time, ASV Heros Dortmund. With this team he was German team champion four times from 1949 to 1953. Between 1942 and 1953 he also wrestled four times in the German national team in international matches. Werner Härtling was only 32 years old and died in a traffic accident in Witten in 1955.

For his sporting successes he was on 12./13. Awarded the silver bay leaf in October 1951.
