Werner Jank (music teacher)

Werner Jank (* 1954 in Gmunden , Austria) is an Austrian music teacher and music didactician .

Life

Jank graduated from high school in Gmunden and studied music education ( school music ) and history at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and at the University of Vienna . He completed his “ probationary year ” (which corresponds to the legal traineeship) in Vienna, as well as his doctorate in history: Workers 'music between art, struggle and sociability - social democratic workers' music movement in the First Republic (1982).

From 1981 to 1983 he studied music education and educational science at the Carl-von-Ossietzky University in Oldenburg . There he was also a teacher for the subjects of music theory , ear training and music education from 1981 to 1990 , and later also general education . From 1987 to 1989 he completed his legal clerkship at the study seminar in Wilhelmshaven . He then had teaching assignments for music education at the universities in Oldenburg, Gießen and Hamburg and was a teacher at grammar schools and a secondary school in Heidelberg. From 1991 to 1993 a post-graduate scholarship followed for a habilitation in the graduate college “Aesthetic Education” ( University of Hamburg ).

In 1993 he received a professorship for music education at the State University for Music and Performing Arts Mannheim and in 1997 a substitute professorship for music education at the Freiburg University of Music . In 2009 the call to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt a. M. to a professorship for music education.

He accompanied the pilot project of the cooperation between the general educational school and music school in Hessen (1997-2000) together with Rainer Schmitt . In the 1980s and 1990s, and again since 2010, Jank has been a board member of the Federal Department of Music Education. He was head of the school music working group of the Rectors' Conference of the Music Universities of the Federal Republic of Germany (2004–2008) and chairman of the Baden-Württemberg regional division of the working group for school music (2001–2009). Jank has been the pedagogical director of the Primacanta project for the advanced training of primary school teachers for the subject of music in and around Frankfurt am Main since 2011 .

He became known as a co-founder and main representative of "advanced music lessons".
