Werner Karl Ludwig Ziegler (born May 15, 1763 in Scharnebeck , † April 24, 1809 in Rostock ) was a German Lutheran theologian and university professor.

Life

From 1784 Ziegler studied philology and theology at the University of Göttingen , where he received his master's degree in 1788 and ao in 1791. Professor. In 1792 he was appointed to the University of Rostock and was appointed full professor there in 1792 as Dr. theol. PhD . When Dr. theol. He then matriculated in Rostock and became ducal full second professor of theology as the successor to Johann Kaspar Velthusen . In 1804, following the departure of Christian David Anton Martini, who had been appointed to Würzburg, he became first professor and in 1805 also consistorial councilor in Rostock. His constitution was affected by an accident with a carriage and required more frequent cures. He therefore stayed in Rostock until his death and turned down offers at other universities.

Ziegler was close to the circle of the Berlin Enlightenment around Friedrich Nicolai ; several of his contributions appeared in Nicolai's General German Library .
