Werner Kolb

Werner Kolb (born July 27, 1895 in Burbach , † February 18, 1975 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German officer , most recently Major General of the Wehrmacht Reserve .

Life

Werner Kolb joined the 55th Infantry Regiment as a volunteer shortly after the beginning of the First World War in August 1914 and served until 1919. He then worked as an engineer until he was accepted as a reservist in 1936 .

From December 1940 to July 1943 he was in command of the 2nd Battalion of Infantry Regiment 36 of the 9th Infantry Division , later renamed the 9th Volksgrenadier Division. He then took over command of the 36th Infantry Regiment until September 1944. In this position, he was awarded the Knight's Cross as Colonel of the Reserve at the end of June 1944 .

In the meantime he was transferred to the Führerreserve in order to be in command of the 9th Volksgrenadier Division from November 1944 until the end of the war. With this he took part in the Ardennes offensive and was promoted to major general of the reserve on February 1, 1945.

In April 1945 he was taken prisoner by the United States.
