The 9th Infantry Division was a large unit of the army of the German Wehrmacht .
Division history
Application locations :
- Siegfried Line : September 1939 to May 1940
- France : May 1940 to June 1941
- Eastern Front , Southern Section: June 1941 to August 1944
The 9th Infantry Division was set up in Gießen in October 1934 under the code name "Infanterieführer V" . The division kept the code name until October 15, 1935. Its infantry regiments were formed from IR 15 of the 5th Division of the Reichswehr .
In August 1939, the division was mobilized as part of the 1st wave of deployment in preparation for the attack on Poland . From 1941 the division took part in the war against the Soviet Union . In 1942, after fighting for Isjum , Rostov-on-Don and Bataisk, she was deployed with the V Corps between Rostov and the Caucasus in the area around Krasnodar . In 1943 the 9th Infantry Division fought for holding positions in the Kuban bridgehead ; from there she had to withdraw via the Crimea to Zaporozhye and Nikopol in the Ukraine .
In August 1944, the 9th Infantry Division, now assigned to Army Group South Ukraine , was destroyed near Kishinev . The 9th Volksgrenadier Division was formed from the remains .

The Artillery Regiment 9 consisted of the I. – III. Department and the I./Artillery-Regiment 45. On May 19, 1942 the I./Artillerie-Regiment 45 was formed, regrouped from the IV./Artillery-Regiment 9.
