349th Infantry Division (Wehrmacht)

The 349th Infantry Division was a German infantry division during World War II . The division was set up on November 25, 1943 in St. Omer near Calais in occupied France . The unit was relocated to the Eastern Front in April 1944 and was completely wiped out in June 1944 near Zolochiv in western Ukraine in the course of the Soviet Lviv-Sandomierz operation .

On September 11, 1944, the 349th Volksgrenadier Division was set up as a replacement for the destroyed 349th Infantry Division on the Stablack military training area in East Prussia . The division was set up from the 567th Volksgrenadier Division , which was under construction . The 349th Volksgrenadier Division was broken up in the spring of 1945 in the Heiligenbeil pocket in East Prussia.
