558th Grenadier Division

The 558th Grenadier Division was a German infantry division during World War II . The division was set up on July 11, 1944 by the military district XIII in Nuremberg . In August and September 1944 the unit fought against the Red Army in Lithuania and in the Suwalki area . On October 9, 1944, the division was renamed the 558th Volks-Grenadier-Division . This unit fought in East Prussia. among others in the cauldron of Heiligenbeil . The remnants of the unit fell into Soviet captivity near Pillau .
