552nd Grenadier Division

The 552nd Grenadier Division was a German infantry division during World War II . The division was set up on July 11, 1944 at the Sennelager military training area in Westphalia . On July 25, 1944, the division was renamed the 6th Grenadier Division and relocated to the Warsaw area. On October 9, 1944, the division was renamed the 6th Volksgrenadier Division . In January 1945 the division fought in the Warka bridgehead and was severely decimated here. Remaining parts of the division escaped via Kalisch to Glogau in Silesia . Here the division took part in the Battle of Lauban in March 1945 and was severely decimated. April 10, 1945 the rest of the division was used to reorganize the 6th Infantry Division .
