585th People's Grenadier Division

The 585th Volksgrenadier Division , also 585th Volksgrenadier Division "Niedergörsdorf" , was a major combat unit of the German Wehrmacht in World War II .

Mission history

The division was set up on September 2, 1944 in the 32nd wave of deployment at the Döllersheim military training area in Lower Austria from the remains of the destroyed 17th Luftwaffe field division . From September 28, 1944, the division was replenished by the Niedergörsdorf Infantry Division .

Still in the formation phase, the division was used in October 1944 together with the 167th Infantry Division for the formation of the 167th People's Grenadier Division .
