The 586th Volksgrenadier Division , also 586th Volksgrenadier Division "Katzbach" , was a major combat unit of the German Wehrmacht in World War II .

Mission history

The division was set up at the beginning of September 1944 in the 32nd wave of formation in West Prussia for military district XX . From September 28, the division was also referred to as the Katzbach Infantry Division , a so-called shadow division . The name of the division probably refers to the place that became famous during the wars of liberation through the battle of the Katzbach in Silesia . , Division name refers to that of the infantry division Niedergörsdorf , Infantry Division Dennewitz , Infantry Division wholesale Görschen and the Infantry Division Moeckern on places of liberation wars .

Still in the formation phase, the division was renamed on October 27, 1944 in the not yet established 79th People's Grenadier Division .
