565th People's Grenadier Division

The 565th Volksgrenadier Division was a major combat unit of the German Wehrmacht in World War II .

Mission history

The division was set up on August 26, 1944 in the 32nd wave of formation at the Milowitz military training area from the Moravia infantry division and parts of the 78th Sturm division in military district XIII . Still in the formation phase, the division was called in on September 15, 1944 in Prague to form the 246th Volksgrenadier Division .

The commandant of the division was Colonel Gerhard Wilck , who also took over the leadership of the successor association.
