551st Grenadier Division

The 551st Grenadier Division was a German infantry division during World War II . The division was set up on July 11, 1944 at the Thorn military training area in West Prussia under the designation 551st Sperr-Division. On July 19, 1944, the division was renamed the 551st Grenadier Division. In October the division was involved in heavy fighting in Lithuania . On October 9, 1944, renamed the 551st Volksgrenadier Division . After that, the division fought in space Tilsit in East Prussia and came here in Soviet captivity .
